iStage Elite Group Audition 2022

Over the past years, we have seen many students join our Elite groups with a true passion for musical theatre, above average artistic qualities, the right work attitude, and a potential for a future career in musical theatre. We nurture those students by challenging them to deepen, develop and broaden their musical theatre skills by working with them on a professional level. These students are willing to dedicate their time to Musical Theatre learning every week. In return they receive professional training and wonderful performance opportunities throughout the year.
Each year, we see the students of our Elite groups flourish and work towards their full potential as stage performers. During the year, we often receive inquiries if students are able to join the Elite groups, but auditions are only held once a year, because we want to guarantee a safe group environment, where students can let their guard down. Now it is time to join the audition for the iStage Elite groups 2022-2023!

Students will learn the necessary skills in all musical theatre disciplines to make them live up to their full potential as a performer. They will learn to nurture their curiosity and creativity, and explore their future career options.

Under the guidance of our professional musical theatre teachers, combined with an intensive daily practice, iStage Elite students will improve their understanding of the Musical Theatre genre, train their performance skills and build up their resilience, knowledge, passion and confidence.

The students will have the opportunity to join our iStage Musical Lab, an innovative concept where students build ownership over the performance materials and work in more experimental ways.
Outside of the regular end of year performance, students from our Elite groups will have plenty of other performances and occasions to represent the Academy.

In addition to being able to sing, dance and act, the students build a daily practice routine. They will be able to critically reflect on their process, analyze materials, and learn to appreciate the rich Musical Theatre genre.

The Elite group students will attend the masterclasses and workshop delivered by musical theatre stars from China and overseas. Audition or university application guidance will also be provided.

The students will submit the required video materials. We will send an in-person audition invitation to those students who we feel are suitable to join our iStage Elite groups.

-Students that can make the time commitment - we expect full attendance for classes and performances and students are expected to spend between 2 and 8 hours on homework every week.

Young Performers Elite：5-7 years old
Our Young Performers Elite course focuses on deepening the earlier acquired skills of vocal, acting, music and dance. Each class the students will work on developing their technical skills, and at the same time, they will develop soft skills such as creativity, confidence and communication. Core subjects will focus on acting (characterisation, transformation, theatrical rules), choreography (dance technique, musicality, expression), vocal technique (development of vocal registers, pitch, projection, rhythm) and performance (integration, expression, delivery). The group will work on a higher pace than our regular classes and asks for more commitment of our students.

A video where the students sing a 1 minute song from the Musical Theatre or Disney repertoire.
A video of the student acting a monologue or a video that showcases the dance skills of the students.
Step 2: Suitable students will receive an invitation for an in-person audition in June 2022.
Pre-Academy Elite: 7-9 years old
Our Pre-Academy ELITE group is suitable for students with above average artistic abilities, but who are not ready to transfer to our Academy courses yet, due to age and physical requirements. The group will work at a higher pace then our regular courses and asks for more commitment of our students. Each class, students will work on vocal technique, acting technique and dance technique as well as on the integration of the disciplines. Students will get a lot of room to explore the different aspects of Musical Theatre and will learn to reflect on their own process and on their peers.
Pre-Academy Elite: 7-9 years old
Our Pre-Academy ELITE group is suitable for students with above average artistic abilities, but who are not ready to transfer to our Academy courses yet, due to age and physical requirements. The group will work at a higher pace then our regular courses and asks for more commitment of our students. Each class, students will work on vocal technique, acting technique and dance technique as well as on the integration of the disciplines. Students will get a lot of room to explore the different aspects of Musical Theatre and will learn to reflect on their own process and on their peers.
Audition preparation:
Step 1: Students fill out the application form and send in two video’s:

The Musical Theatre ELITE group will work on a professional level and is a great way for students to explore their potential for a future career in the Performing Arts. Each class, students will work on vocal technique (Estill Voice Training, Complete Vocal Technique, Bel-Canto), acting techniques (Meisner, Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, Viewpoints) and dance techniques (Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary and Tap). Students will work on the practical skills, but also study the theory of different techniques. The teacher will closely monitor the learning progress of each student and the student will reflect on their own learning process.
Academy Elite: 10-18 years old
The Musical Theatre ELITE group will work on a professional level and is a great way for students to explore their potential for a future career in the Performing Arts. Pre-Conservatory: 12-18 years old
Do you want to prepare yourself for a career in Musical Theatre? The Pre-Conservatory group will work on a professional level and will give our students the necessary skills for auditions and college applications in musical theatre or drama. The focus of our Pre-Conservatory group will be on the individual development of your talents and bringing your talents to the stage. We will work on different techniques in dance, acting and singing as well as repertoire development. There will be lots of performance opportunities to bring the talent to the stage inside and outside our academy.
Pre-Conservatory: 12-18 years old
Do you want to prepare yourself for a career in Musical Theatre? The Pre-Conservatory group will work on a professional level and will give our students the necessary skills for auditions and college applications in musical theatre or drama. The focus of our Pre-Conservatory group will be on the individual development of your talents and bringing your talents to the stage. We will work on different techniques in dance, acting and singing as well as repertoire development. There will be lots of performance opportunities to bring the talent to the stage inside and outside our academy.
Audition preparation:
Step 1: Students fill out the application form and send in three video’s and an essay:
A video where the students sing a 1 minute song from the Musical Theatre repertoire.
A video of the student acting a 1 minute published monologue.
A video that showcases the dance skills of the students (in any genre).
An essay where you describe why Musical Theatre is such an important part of your life.
Step 2: Suitable students will receive an invitation for an in-person audition in June 2022.
